Air travel now requires passportsThis week, the Marshfield Post Office learned it will be able to handle passport applications by mid-November -- just in time for travelers wanting to fly to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
Starting in early January, a passport will be needed to exit and return to the United States when traveling by air. And just a year later, the document will be needed for anyone traveling by land or sea.
"There's a lot of people that travel to Canada or to Mexico or the Caribbean on vacation," said Marshfield Postmaster Lori Rogney. "The post office has taken this on because of a large number of people who need passports now."
Barb and Alec Kiser of Stevens Point are two such people. They have a cabin in Canada they visit three times a year, spending the entire July up north.

Absolute in their resolve to make senior citizens feel a part of the communities in which they reside, officials from the Grand Bahama Department of Social Service and Community Affairs launched an elderly handicraft training program yesterday designed to do just that. The initiative dubbed "I'm Proud to be a Senior" will run weekly between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at selected points throughout Grand Bahama.
