Diners still find paradise at Casa D'Angelo

News that chef Angelo Elia was opening a fine-dining outpost at Paradise Island's Atlantis resort made us fret. Would this top toque be leaving us for the Bahamas? Would his superb cuisine suffer from divided attention?

We're happy to report all is well in Elia's house. The chef is still in the kitchen at Fort Lauderdale's Casa D'Angelo, turning out glorious Tuscan meals matched by a superb wine list and exemplary service, making for one of the best dining experiences in town.

Elia sent one of his top managers to join the staff of the Atlantis restaurant, which opened in October, and says he has no intention of leaving Lauderdale's Casa D'Angelo. ''It is my life,'' he says.

He learned many of his dishes in his mother's kitchen in Florence (her many fans will be happy to hear she'll be here this month, making her famous fusilli at the restaurant).

CARIBBEAN-HAWAII SPECIAL SECTION: Your place in paradise

NASSAU, Bahamas -- The online vacation rental advertisement looks like a fabulous find. For $350 a night, it's a two-bedroom villa at the upscale Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island along the powdery sand of Cabbage Beach. But when you look more closely, it's a lie.

"Easy walking distance of Atlantis," the small print more truthfully says. "Easy walking distance to Cabbage Beach."

Yeah, right. Bring your hiking shoes.

Meanwhile, at Guanahani Village on Cable Beach west of Nassau, three-bedroom ocean-view condos rent for $306 per night in high season for two people (each additional person $20 more.) What you don't see on the Web site, however, is that the 35-unit oceanfront timeshare property has just been sold to a private Bahamian group and is undergoing an upgrade.

Movie Set Travel: Casino Royale

Just in time for heading home for Thanksgiving and having to deal with excessive relatives, the perfect movie to escape the house for, Casino Royale, opens today. Daniel Craig hits the big screen as the new 007, a blonder, younger version.

You know the drill: adventure, bedding foreign women, car and boat chases. Although this time around, the plot explores James' first mission, where he has to stop a crafty banker from winning a casino tournament because he knows the prize money will be used to fund terrorist activities. Getting paid to gamble? Sounds like fun to us.

This film was shot all over, literally, from the Bahamas to the Czech Republic to England to Venice. We offer you a round-up of some of the most glam, 007-themed spots around the world where we're sure you could snag your very own secret sexy spy:

Records document priest's high-rolling lifestyle

DELRAY BEACH — The Rev. Francis Guinan took his girlfriend to Las Vegas nearly a dozen times, often staying at the Monte Carlo Resort Hotel & Casino where he would receive special room rates because he was a "high roller," documents show.

They traveled together quite a bit - relaxing at a spa in Athens, Ga., taking her son to Ireland and staying at the swanky Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas in November 2004 with the Rev. John Skehan, his cohort who already has been charged with stealing more than $100,000 from the church both led.
