Royal Carribean gives donation to CTO education foundation

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has donated $35,000 to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Education Foundation to support and initiate an internship program for Caribbean nationals seeking to further their education in the tourism and hospitality industries. The cruise line has also committed to a five-year program with an additional $25,000 each year to sustain the program.

In making the check presentation at CTC-29 in the Bahamas, Horace Hord, RCCL vice president of industry relations, said, "We are focusing on internships to the extent that while organizations have been providing scholarships for Caribbean youth, in collaboration with the CTO, we saw the need to help these Caribbean students extend their studies by creating working internships that provide a more hands-on education so they can return to their home destinations and improve tourism in the region."

Jacqueline Johnson, CTO Education Foundation Chairman, said, "We are thrilled to be able to add this intern program to our ongoing scholarship program to enable our Caribbean nationals to expand their knowledge in the various tourism related fields.

The pair were then flown to Georgetown, Bahamas and met by a Miami-based Coast Guard Falcon jet. The two were then transported to the Opa Locka Airport.

The ship's agent for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Freedom of the Seas requested assistance from the Coast Guard about 3 p.m.
