The first was from her 4-year-old daughter."She asked why mean people hurt granddaddy," Perra said. "And I told her, 'I don't know why mean people hurt grandaddy, but you have to understand that Jesus needed him more than we did.'" NASA considers delaying shuttle launchCAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The chances that the space shuttle Atlantis would be launched into orbit this week diminished by the hour Sunday as NASA prepared for Tropical Storm Ernesto and the possibility of moving the spacecraft into shelter.NASA managers planned to meet early Monday before making a final call on whether to move Atlantis indoors or try to launch Tuesday. There was a 30 percent chance that weather would prohibit a launch Tuesday, and the forecast worsened as the week progressed. Preparations already were under way for a rollback. Workers on Sunday rolled to the launch pad a gigantic crane that could be used to move generators and other heavy gear in case the shuttle is moved back to the protection of the enormous Vehicle Assembly Building.
Successful sale of The Royal Oasis HotelI extend congratulations to the Christie Administration, generally, and the Hon. Obidiah Wilchombe, MP and Minister of Tourism, in particular, on successfully bringing about the sale of the troubled Royal Oasis Hotel in Freeport, Grand Bahama. This is welcomed news for the long suffering displaced workers at that resort and they may now have an opportunity to rebuild their lives and get a grip on their finances. It took a bit long to conclude this matter but I've always maintained that it is better late than never at all. Minister Wilchombe is "the man of the hour" and must be given the praise for remaining focused, determined and eternally optimistic when so many others, including myself, at one point, took a bleak stance. It has long been my contention that Minister Wilchombe is one of the hardest-working members of the administration of the Rt.
Teens arrested with cocaineTwo teens were arrested at the Grand Bahama International Airport Thursday, after police caught them attempting to smuggle cocaine in a birthday cake. Two girls reportedly attempted to clear US customs and immigration on August 24 in the Pre-Clearance Lounge, when a security officer noticed a solid object inside the cake on the monitor screen and requested police assistance. A police officer responded and upon cutting the cake discovered a kilo package of cocaine inside. As a result both girls, one a resident of Windsor Park and the other of Hanna Hill, Eight Mile Rock were arrested and taken into custody at the Drug Enforcement Unit, along with the illegal narcotics. They have since been flown to New Providence and are expected to be arraigned in the drug court sometime on Monday.
Ducks make most of trip to BahamasOregon coach Ernie Kent didn't have much time time to review his basketball team's trip to the Bahamas for five exhibition games, but his quick review Monday was "everything we needed to get out of the trip, we got out of it."Kent was at Shadow Hills Country Club early Monday morning for a golf tournament that benefits the Children's Miracle Network, which has the coach as its honorary chairman. That duty at the course started about eight hours after Kent and a portion of the team's traveling party arrived back in Eugene, the itinerary off only slightly by a delay in Atlanta. If that sounds like fairly ambitious scheduling, considering what the Ducks went through last week. They played five games in six nights, and the first three of those games were on consecutive nights with only seven players available.
