atlantis resort bahamasBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationKerzner says Bahamas project gives it edge for Sentosa resort bidBAHAMAS : US resort operator Kerzner International is counting on its success in the Bahamas to tip the balance in its favour in the race for the Sentosa integrated resort. The Kerzner-run Atlantis resort was seen as instrumental in pulling the Bahamas out of a six-year-old recession and turning tourism into a key pillar of the economy. Kerzner, together with CapitaLand, is one of the key contenders for the Sentosa integrated resort. It believes that its success in the Bahamas may give it the much-needed edge against rival bidders. There are three key similarities between the Atlantis and the upcoming Sentosa integrated resort. The Atlantis resort is built on the small Paradise Island, very much like Sentosa, and also connected to the mainland via a bridge. Secondly, the casino is a very small component of the resort, occupying 55,000 square feet or just slightly more than 1% of the existing property.BODOG HEADS FOR THE BAHAMASYou can't keep a good online gambling group down! Hold ‘Em DownIt is climatic perfection, 80 degrees with equal parts hot sun and cool breeze, on the beach at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. The smell of Coppertone fills the salty air, and bartenders are serving up pina coladas near the transparent turquoise ocean, where bikini-clad women emerge, slo-mo Baywatch-style, to the soundtrack of crashing waves and steel drums. {inside1}We're not there. We're inside the resort, along with 724 other people (mostly men), gathered around poker tables in a windowless room the size of a high school gymnasium. The AC is set to “tundra," yet somehow it still smells like a post-game jockstrap. Oh, and the soundtrack is something of the “hacking cough" genre. But to the people in this room, this is paradise. It's day one of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), an annual poker tournament on the World Poker Tour circuit, which took place during the first week in January.
FNM tours AtlantisHubert Ingraham moved briskly past cement mixers, bulldozers and tool-toting workmen as he and his party viewed construction on Phase Three of Kerzner International's Atlantis Resort. Not even chairman Sol Kerzner beamed more than the Opposition leader yesterday as he took in the ocean view from one of two presidential suites in the 600-room luxury wing."I hear lots of talk that lots of birds that are going to come," Mr Ingraham told reporters during a press conference following the tour. "This bird is in the hand. This bird has been delivered." To be sure, Mr Ingraham was not really talking about birds. He was using the bird analogy to explain that Atlantis was a successful project his administration had helped to bring to The Bahamas. His mention of "birds that are going to come," was a reference to the billions of dollars in development that have been signed by the Christie administration but have yet to fly off the drawing board.
One Year After Hurricane Katrina Devastated the Gulf Region, Displaced Children and Dolphins Connect for the FutureIt has been one year since Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf States and changed the lives of thousands of families. It has also been one year since the former Gulfport, Mississippi residents of the destroyed Marine Life Oceanarium, known the world over as the "the Katrina Dolphins", were rescued from the Mississippi Sound by their trainers and dozens of volunteers. Of the many who were relocated after the storm, seventeen children and their families came together at the dolphins' new home, Dolphin Cay at Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas, to adopt the Katrina Dolphins, during what was both a moving reunion and unforgettable experience. These special dolphins have become a symbol of hope, having adapted wonderfully, living in their new home on Paradise Island in The Bahamas and exploring a new life.
