atlantis bahamas vacationBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationTHE WONDER OF IT ALLIt's a strongly shared sentiment that Monterey County is a wonderful place. But what makes it so? If we had to identify seven specific wonders of Monterey County, our versions of the seven wonders of the world, could we? What would they be?The great thinkers of ancient Greece came up with their list -- several lists, actually, until one eventually stood out as the list. We want to do that here, so we're asking readers to tell us what they think, to draw up their own lists, and we'll see what rises to the top. We'll do two rounds of voting. The first is essentially wide open: Readers may submit their list of seven "wonders," then we'll name the top 20 or so finishers and ask readers to vote on that pared-down list to determine the final roster. While the wonders-of-the-world list is exclusively made up of man-made marvels, we're opening our list to natural wonders.
Pet project in stainless steel -- an artist's interpretation of ...A note comes in. A Southwest Portland sculptor announces creation of what he describes as the largest stainless steel cat's head west of the Mississippi River. If true, that requires a reordering of all that is important.Questions arise. They range from the size of cats' heads east of the Mississippi to definitions of large. On request a few days later, the proclaimer of this breakthrough, sculptor Phil Seder, wearing a welder's cap, walks to the nearly finished piece in a studio behind his home. Before that, though, he deals with curiosity: Why does he believe his cat's head is the biggest in the West? He replies that it just seems like it probably is, that he has gone on the Internet for a few minutes and that the only thing close was a big stone lion somewhere in Utah.

Ingraham stresses need for decisive leadershipThe need for firm, decisive leadership and boosting the economy of Grand Bahama were just two of the concerns addressed by Free National Movement Leader Hubert A. Ingraham Saturday evening.Ingraham was in Grand Bahama celebrating with hundreds of FNM officers and supporters as the party commemorated the anniversary of FNM's historic general election victory on August 19, 1992. "In our next election the issue is going to be leadership, something the governing party has not provided and something that the FNM will provide," said Ingraham. "Back in 1992 you called for the FNM's 'delivery boy' to rescue you. Now it is 2006 and the so-called delivery boy is a man now, a man mellowed by the passage of time, wiser by experience and more than willing to confront the challenges ahead." Ingraham said he is ready willing and able to provide the leadership needed at this point and time in the country's history.
