Council denies Baker's Bay

The Privy Council has denied the Baker's Bay developers motion to set aside an injunction which brought a screeching halt to work on the multi-million dollar resort.

Developers of the Abaco resort made the announcement yesterday in a press release sent to The Nassau Guardian.

"Passerine at Abaco Holdings Limited, developers of Bakers Bay, advises the public that the Privy Council did not accede to its application to set aside the injunction granted on July 27, 2006, which restrains the Developers from carrying out certain works until after the judgement of Acting Justice, Norris Carroll, or until the Privy Council hears the application by Save Guana Cay Reef Association Limited for special leave to appeal to the Privy Council," the statement read.

It also added that the Council gave no reason for its decision.

Golfers pay their respects

The Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) and the Bahamas Professional Golfers Association (BPGA) are making preparations to pay tribute to a man of great distinction and stature. The organisations will host a two-day tournament in honour of the late Preston E. Stuart Jr.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of September 16-17 under the major sponsorship of the FML Group of Companies. The event will be played over two days at the Our Lucaya Golf Courses in Freeport, Grand Bahama. The format of the tournament is a four-man scramble. There will be two teams of two players per team on each hole.

There will also be a Pro-Am tournament. Prizes will be awarded for amateurs and a cash purse prize will be awarded for professionals over first, second and third groups.

Floridians Get Prepared as Ernesto Nears

Florida residents rushed to fill their prescriptions and stood in long lines for gasoline, food and other supplies Monday as officials warned people not to wait for Tropical Storm Ernesto to become a hurricane again before taking precautions.

Forecasters said Ernesto could grow back into a hurricane in the warm waters off Cuba and come ashore in South Florida as early as Tuesday night, exactly one year after Hurricane Katrina pummeled the Gulf Coast.

It would be the first hurricane to hit the United States this year.

Memories of Katrina and the seven hurricanes that have struck Florida since 2004 were fresh in the minds of many.

"Make sure you have the supplies for the 72 hours after the storm," Gov. Jeb Bush warned people in Tallahassee, a day after declaring a state of emergency for all Florida.

The Thorn in Their Side

He was a hero of mine until he got seduced by the health and wealth gospel. Jakes has moved to Fort Worth and has bought a $6 million home. He flies on his own jet. I wish he wouldn't live like Benny Hinn. I said on the radio that if it was up to him, he'd just as soon live in a little house in South Dallas, but his people and his wife are pushing for the big lifestyle. We've heard endless stories on how Serita insists on being treated. She's the queen bee.

You investigated Fort Worth-based James Robison at one point. What was the outcome of that?

When our victim's hotline number was published in Ann Landers, we got calls from all over the world. The most serious allegation was against James Robison concerning his efforts to help orphans overseas. The caller said he was taking thousands of dollars under the table to bring orphan babies to families in America.

You Asked For It

Q. I have a request for a delicious pate recipe. Sage restaurant in Fort Lauderdale has one. I would appreciate the recipe for their tasty, smooth pate. -- Stella Smith, Fort Lauderdale

A. Laurent Tasic, chef/co-owner of the Sage French Cafe, 2378 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954-565-2299, is happy to share their delicious appetizer pate, which he calls a Smooth, Light Chicken Liver Mousse. Once you experience its velvety texture, you will know why "mousse" is the appropriate word to describe this pate.

You will also be pleased to find there are only seven ingredients. That should alert you to the necessity of using only the best and freshest chicken livers. We ordered ours, along with the fat back that's required and not readily available in most markets, from a quality butcher shop.

Negreanu's Protg 2 Launched

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Give a man a fish, feed him for a day ... teach him how to play poker and watch the chips fly. Now Daniel Negreanu and FullContactPoker.com (FCP) will ante up again with the launch of Negreanu's Protege 2, a contest where one lucky member of the FCP community will win the chance to become a poker star in their own right -- bankrolled by FullContactPoker.com and under the watchful eye of Kid Poker himself, Daniel Negreanu.

The winner of Negreanu's Protege 2 will receive four $10,000 buy-ins into major poker tournaments, one-on-one instruction from the world's most successful poker tournament player, and the chance to experience the Vegas-style VIP life at the most exclusive poker events.

But the battle to victory will be tough, as the ten finalists, and their guests, will be flown to the Bahamas to duke it out at the Atlantis, Paradise Island on December 9th 2006 at a live event.

Ernesto, Pacific hurricane moving north

ACAPULCO, Mexico -- While a lot of attention is being paid to Tropical Storm Ernesto and the trouble it could cause for Florida, there's a big storm off the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Hurricane John is about 170 miles south of Acapulco and moving west-northwest. Maximum sustained winds are close to 90 mph with higher gusts. Forecasters expect it to pick up in intensity by Wednesday.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of Mexico's west coast. There's already been rain and wind, but, so far, there are no reports of any major floods or other problems.

Meanwhile on the East Coast, the rush to get ready for Ernesto is widening.

South Carolina's governor said he's activated hundreds of National Guard troops in case a "fairly fickle" Mother Nature steers Ernesto toward the state.
