Bahamas vacations

Vacations in The Bahamas begin by understanding that there are 700 islands in The Bahamas, covering 150,000 square miles of tropical sea and approximately 5,000 square miles of land. The islands have flat coral formations with some low rounded hills.

Each island in The Bahamas has its own character and something different to offer. Enjoy a vacation full of variety by visiting as many islands as time allows. Spend a few fun days in cosmopolitan Nassau with its duty free shops, golf, museums and restaurants. Lie back and relax on the bright white sand of Long Island's deserted beaches. Experience the dive of a lifetime in challenging wreck sites off the coast of San Salvador. Witness the spectacle of nesting flamingos and other exotic wildlife in Inagua National Park. Cruise through the Exumas' 100-mile-long string of pristine cays. The hard part is deciding which islands to visit!

For many tourists who vacation in The Islands of the Bahamas it means Nassau and Freeport. These are certainly very exciting destinations, but there is much more to discover in the Islands of the Bahamas-there are about 698 more islands and cays! These other islands are called the 'Family Islands'.

Visitors who are searching for unspoiled beauty and quiet will find it in the Family Islands. These islands offer miles and miles of unexplored beaches, caves and cays which allow for the best scuba diving, fishing and sailing. The people of the Family Islands are well-known for their warmth and friendliness. Tourists are treated like family.

Visitors may start their vacations in Nassau or Freeport for never-ending nightlife and excitement. Then on to the one of the Family Islands for peace, rest and relaxation

There isn't much that you can do on or in the water that you can't do in The Bahamas. These islands offer a smorgasbord for the land-weary. Once ashore, explore the natural beauty of these islands by plane or by bicycle. Or enjoy a round of golf, a set of tennis, or a visit to any of the island's shopping arcades or casinos. And of course, if you prefer, there is always the old standby--relaxing on a beach, with a good book, a refreshing tropical drink and a close friend

Easy access to The Bahamas is one reason for its long-standing popularity as a winter holiday destination. Only a few miles from the south Florida coast, in fact closer than Caribbean destinations, the islands can be reached quickly either by air or by sea.

The Bahama Islands temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees F, or rise above 90 degrees F. Most of the rain fall occurs in the summer months. The sea temperature ranges from the low 80's in the summer to about 74 degrees F in the winter
