A Few Hours in Nassau - Bahamas

You can do a lot in Nassau, even if you are only in Nassau for a few hours. If you plan your day correctly, you will have a great time during your stay

If you get the chance to visit Nassau for a few hours, try to enjoy every minute you have while you are there. 5-10 hours may not seem like much, but you can do a lot, you just have to know where to go and what to try.

You should try something by the docks first after you get off the ship; if you like underwater animals, you will love a ride in one of the glass boats. A glass boat has a clear bottom, which lets you see animals, plants, and even old sunken ships as you move through the water. You will see some unique things, so bring your camera, because it will get plenty of use. Using a glass boat is also a good way to see what animals you might encounter if you plan to scuba dive during your next visit.

If you prefer indoor activities, you should stop by the casino to try to win some cash. The casino is a great place to visit; however, you should keep an eye on your watch after you arrive. Once you start winning or losing, you might keep playing for hours, and since time flies when you are having fun, you may not have time for other activities. If you want to go to the casino, and only the casino, that is great, but Nassau has so much more to offer, so you should consider trying more things as well. Before you leave the casino, visit the huge aquarium, and say hi to some of the animals.

On Bay Street, you will see many types of stores, and visiting all of them will take up all of your time, so try browsing a few. Instead of going to a store that sells everything, checkout a specialty store which only sells one type of item. Look at each store’s sign, and if the store sell something interesting, go in and start browsing. Your family will love an item from the island because it will be special, and when someone visits your home, you get to tell that person you got the item from Nassau.

After you have purchased your souvenir, ask one of the locals for the location of the Queen Staircase and Fort Fincastle. When you climb the Queen Staircase, you get another chance to take some photos when you reach the top. At the final step, look in the distance and take some photos of the water tower, afterwards, head to Fort Fincastle. Enter the castle and go to the top floor; once you get there, get your camera ready, because when you look down, you get a chance to take photos of the ships sailing in the clear water. If you take a good picture, you can make an awesome postcard using some PC software when you get home.

You can use your last few hours in Nassau to relax, and you should choose a place that is close to the docks so you can get on your ship quicker. The British Colonial Hilton lets you visit their beach area for $15.00; this gives you a one-day pass, which also includes access to the pool. On the beach, you will not find many kids and there will not be many motorized vehicles in the ocean, so if you want to nap in a chair, you will not be disturbed. If you want something to eat, you can use the table next to your chair to hold your food or drink after you order your meal from a staff member. As you eat your meal, you will hear music playing in the background by a band. The band’s music actually sounds good, and you after finish eating; you can listen to it until your ship is ready to leave.

A few hours in Nassau may seem short, but you can try many activities before your ships sail out.

Nassau is stretched along the northern coast of New Providence, Bahamas. The city is compact and easy to leisurely explore on foot. As you stroll the city, absorb the colonial history and allow time to look for bargains in the shops and straw markets. Take a walk down Bay Street to the Queen's Staircase and a visit to Fort Fincastle and Fort Charlotte before concluding at the Ardastra Gardens
