Nassau - Bahamas

Nassau is an awesome place to visit for a vacation because it has beautiful Caribbean buildings and clear water for scuba diving.

In Nassau most of the people are nice, and they make your stay on the island very pleasant. You will get many chances to use your camera because you will see many amazing sites while you are there. The street vendors; however, can get pushy at times, but the friendly locals make the trip well worth it.

When you step off the ship, you will notice how nice the locals are because they always try to make your vacation much better. If you need directions, you are sure to find someone nearby to point you in the right direction. Some locals will even walk with you and actually show you the exact location if they have some free time.

Everyone in Nassau is nice in the morning as well, and anyone who is not working will greet you by saying hello if you decide to take a stroll on foot when it is early. You should socialize with some of the locals because they know the best restaurants to visit along with the best items to order on the menu. You should not visit a random restaurant and choose something that sounds good; it may taste awful and that will be money wasted. The locals have visited almost every restaurant on the island, unless it is new, so asking them about the best places and dishes is a great idea.

Although the locals are friendly, in Nassau you will encounter a few street vendors who can be quite pushy and will not take no for an answer. Some tourists have encountered these types of vendors during their stay on the island and they do not know how to handle them. These tourists let the vendors talk them into buying something most of the time, so they avoid the vendors by staying on the cruise ship without going back on the island. Sure, the ship is nice, but the best part of the trip is touring Nassau and taking photos for friends and family back home, so a vendor should not make anyone miss this chance.

Tourists should shop when they are ready and not when pressured, so if you see a vendor selling items on the street just say “no thanks” and keep walking. You may have to say it a few times, but you will eventually make your point, then you can continue touring the island and Nassau in particular. You should take the time to shop at stores while you are on the island, but ask a local where you should go to purchase something as a souvenir.

Nassau has locals that are very helpful and extremely friendly; they make tourists feel more comfortable while on the island. Street vendors, however, can be a problem, and they will try everything to get a sale, but they can be avoided. Instead of staying on the ship, just make your point by saying “no thanks” and then keep walking. If you a planning a vacation, you should definitely visit Nassau, because you will have a great time there.
