Bahamas - Black Beard Cay

Black Beard Cay is a great place to snorkel and see stingrays in the Bahamas. The beach area; however, does not have a lot to offer, but it is a great place to relax

Black Beard Cay is a nice place to visit while in the Bahamas, but it is not for everyone. The only great activity it offers is stingray encounters, other than that, you will have to find other ways to have fun. If you just want to visit a beach and only relax, this is the place for you, but if you want to try many activities, you should go somewhere else.

Snorkeling with the stingrays is the best activity available in Black Beard Cay; it is fun, and quite easily for beginners. The swallow water is the main reason why is it easy; you do not have to go completely underwater to see the stingrays; you only have to get on your knees in the 2 ft water. The swallow water makes a good practice area for kids and adults, so if you never snorkeled before, you should try it at Black Beard Cay first.

After you are comfortable in the water, you will get a chance to hold one of the stingrays and pet it, and for $10, you can get a picture made of you holding one in the water. After you seen the stingrays, there is no other reason why you should continue to snorkel because you will only see grass and seaweed. If you want to see colorful tropical fish while you are snorkeling, you should visit another beach in the Bahamas.

The beach area in Black Beard Cay has some good things and a few bad things. There are chairs to sit on, which are great for older people, and souvenir shops to buy some unique items; these are some of the good things. One problem you need to watch out for is locals that offer tourists a chance to rent their wave runners. You need to be caution about this, because they are not vendors, they are regular people that live in the area who want you to rent their vehicle.

You have to be responsible if you want to use a local’s wave runner, and you have to keep it in good condition while you are riding it. You should think carefully before you rent from a local, but here is a good tip, if you do not know how to ride one, do not test your skills on a local’s machine. If you damage someone’s wave runner, he or she may get angry; they may even call the cops if you refuse to pay for the damages. You should also know that the bathrooms on the beach sometimes do not work; people have used the toilets and the water was not functional. If you plan to visit this beach, do not fully rely on the available toilets, you might have to travel somewhere else in the Bahamas.

Black Beard Cay should be visited if you want to practice snorkeling with the stingrays in shallow water. The beach area is nice as well because it has chairs to relax on and souvenir stands

Easy access to The Bahamas is one reason for its long-standing popularity as a winter holiday destination. Only a few miles from the south Florida coast, in fact closer than Caribbean destinations, the islands can be reached quickly either by air or by sea.

The Bahama Islands temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees F, or rise above 90 degrees F. Most of the rain fall occurs in the summer months. The sea temperature ranges from the low 80's in the summer to about 74 degrees F in the winter
